The secret garden
is by definition an ambiguous condition,a paradox. It has
already been manifested as the translation of endlessness
and of enclosure into plant & stone.Today possibilities
of communalisation appear lapsed in the modern city, a gigantic
circulation has replaced the public stage. And yet the old
cry for "buildings and situations which … would express the
sublimity of self communion" still ascribes a loss in our
social, cultural & spatial context.
The secret garden is an urban mechanism for the production
of new public space that oscillates between the ephemeral
nature of connections and the transcendence of seclusion.
