In the context
of a city of spatially independent networks i.e. large corporate
organisations, commercial chains, transport systems etc. public
space becomes more and more controlled, surveyed, privatised.
This gradual loss of purpose and meaning shifts the idea of
what public space could be. The Mobile Traffic Island
is a mechanism for creating spontaneous spaces for public interaction.
It questions the ownership of the road and in this way creates
a dynamic link between existing public spaces and circulation
routes. |
