DESCRIPTION
The majority of trading now takes place on-line, and yet the stock exchange building is an increasing phenomena. It seems that the building functions more as a symbol of solidity and prosperity, more than it is required for the activity of trade.
“The essence of the stock market is speculation: it is based on capital, not gravity. The case of Shenzhen’s almost virtual stock market, the role of exceeds that of program - it is a a building that has to represent the stock market, more than physically accommodate it…. It is not a trading arena with offices, but an office with virtual organsthat suggest and ilustrate the process of the market”
Rem Koolhaas on the proposed OMA stock exchange in Shenzhen.
